Thanks for the directions and also for the correct directions. It may be a couple of weeks before Tues night works for me but I'll be there if my scoot makes it up the hill on Grand. |

Last night we discussed the possibility of hooking several tow ropes to the back of the K for those whose Scoots are "hill challenged." This idea was abandoned after I flashbacked to my 4th grade encounter with the tow rope on the bunny hill at Afton Alps.
OK, so it was actually last year. Sheesh! Give a guy a break....

Well, you don't necessarily have to go up the _big_ hill.
Smith to grand, left on grand and now stay in the LEFT lane, and go up the 'easy' hill. At the stoplight (Dale), take a right, and a left on summit. Now take summit to the end.
Truthfully, you will become VERY FAMILIAR with this route. The Grand/Summit corridor will probably become one of your main arteries for transit around the cities. It's a bit more direct than the Ford parkway route, and not as hectic as University.
It just worried me to consider a new rider on a vino on 5. That'd be a sketchy situation. |

Very sketchy as it is at least 45mph and you prolly should be doing 60'ish to keep from getting run over.....

MNSCOOTERGAL has a Vino 125. Should be able to climb the steep hill to Summitt, thought the easy grade on the left to Grand would be better.
That hill would be fun for a rally, everyone down in first or second gear screaming up the hill! A few years ago we had a route through St. Paul on Sunday like that.
How fast do Vino 125's go anyhow, 50ish? |

Yeah it would be funny for 75 manual shift bikes to stall out and start rolling backwards.... |

What, don't manual scooters have brakes?
My father-in-law lost a wheel of his model T coming down that hill. |

Brakes, yes. Good brakes, no.

Probably I am, plus my wife is the youngest in her family and her parents have been gone for 10 years. But the legends live on. He picked up my mother-in-law on Sherburne, then drove into St. Paul. Lost the wheel going down the hill.
I'm actually from a rural area, so I tend to think a little older than I am. My father actually farmed with horses when he was a kid. The first tractor I drove was a 1941 Farmall. Heck, many rural areas really didn't get out of the depression until well after WWII and were not wired for electricity until the early 50's. I have an Alladin white gas lamp in my basement in a box, still wrapped in newspaper from the 50's when it was put away. I didn't own a color TV until I got married. And I walked two miles to school, uphill both ways.
My wife says I went straight from an agrarian to a technological society - I just skipped the industrial revolution.
Relating this back to scooters... Sometimes it's hard to believe that they were developed as an economical transportation device and a WWII gas rationing solution, now that they have become trendy and all. I mostly think of my scooter as a street-legal gocart. |

Hey, I looked up the weight of gasoline, since we were talking about The K and the fuel cell.... gas weighs about 5.8-6.5 pounds per gallon...
http://www.santacruzpl.org/readyref/files/g-l/gasoline.shtml
A lot less than water....so I am thinking I could easily carry a 2 gallon can on my back rack. Any thoughts?

I carry my laptop to work every day in a case stuffed full of other things, no problem. There are many bolts holding that rack on, so it better not break.
2 gallons/no problem. Not sure if it's legal to put a fuel tap in a plastic can like that. I'd just stop for gas. Plus you'll still have to pee, unless you are carrying a bottle for that.
Will pee add pounds, be neutral weight or just evaporate? |

Oh I was just going to carry the can and when I got low, I would just fill up. That way, I can always make it to a gas station when traveling in remote areas.....
I got approval to go to Amerivespa......
