They did not make SS180s in 1970.
I don't know what that means. |

i knew a greg with a rally 180 and a 60's franken-150 who lived in uptown about a decade ago.
i'm betting it's the same guy.
the rally, if it's the same guy, would need a rebuild but was not too messed with when i saw it.
but it's not an ss...
i don't remember the other one except that it had a swapped out engine... |

i e-mailed the guy and it is the greg-from-uptown i thought it was. he said the 180's at scooterville (bob, you know it?) he bought both bikes from an old scooter-chum of mine back in the mid 90's.
i sent off a second e-mail to him asking about the rally/ss confusion, i'm guessing he just doesn't know enough about scooters to know what he has. he didn't know much about scooters back then, either, but he seemed a nice enough guy. i didn't know him well, though.
as i said, the rally 180 i saw back then was in pretty good shape and the engine had not yet been rebuilt or "customized".
if someone was looking for a vespa project, and could get him to back down on his price since it's only a rally, it might be worth a look... but you'd better know what you're looking at or bring along someone who does to make sure it's not a mess! |

Sounds like someone's collection has officially become worth less than the garage space it is stored in... |
