Huh. John Freeman used to work for me about 12 years ago when I was managing the Uptown.

There was only one dude at the buzzcocks show?

I didn't figure anybody would want to see those crusty old guys with their irrelevant music, but I didn't imagine turnout would be that poor.

I was there!! saw some familer faces from back in the day (first ave, mid 80's). didn't remember any names.
saw quite a few customers from work also and a couple coworkers.

I made my best friend come with me so that means I get to go to the Def Lep/Journey show with her tomorrow night. should be interesting. Of course we're scootin' down.

I'm bummed, had tix to see the buzzcocks but was too zonked out from being in the sun all day. I heard it was a really great show. The Magnolias had a reunion show a few months ago didn't they? Always liked them, but my favorite song was that cover of the Suicide Commandos.

"Complicated Fun". Target used a new version of it a few years ago for an ad featuring the Playstation 2. The Commandos did the music and John sang.

Oh, I had heard that ad and assumed it was just the Magnolias. I wonder if a recording made it anywhere?

Yes. Check this out from City Pages: three different 35-second versions with various lyrics recorded for the commercial plus a full-length cut. Very cool.

Remember how good the quiet, introspective tunes by the Suburbs were?
