So I've got my calendar marked for a Duluth Run 2006 from Friday, September 8 through Sunday, September 10. I know Dave should be on his way to Amerivespa and so won't be replying right away, but I know he was planning to go. Who else is in? We're thinking we'll do last year's route backwards - up the Minnesota side, back the Wisconsin side.
We'd talked about taking Friday off work and making a three-day weekend of it this time - any interest in that plan? Or just an up-and-down over the weekend?
We can probably do the Motel 6 like last year - nothing wrong with cheap - and as a bonus, it was even clean. And we didn't get to see the knife fight, so maybe we'll have better luck this year.
Any type of scooter is welcome, as long as it can maintain 50 and you're willing to go 400-500 miles in a weekend with no sag wagon - what you carry is what you have. In other words, if you ride a Baron, you're welcome to come, but we're not likely to have spare parts when it burns up on you.
Robert? Michelle? Becky? Brad? Eric? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? |

Count me in as a definite maybe. OK, probably. I want to get a few miles on the P first.

I still want to go. But we should hold off discussing this online until after the big rally (or while we are eating breakfast at Yarosso's). They need all the energy right now. |

Hello All,
I don't know if I can do a 3 day. Not that I don't want to, it is just a matter of PL time. I should be able to, but lets get together and chat about it.

We've been discussing it for weeks in the Secret Duluth Run Forum.

How flexible are you on that particular date? I'd love to ride along but I'm volunteering at an MS Society Getaway... :( |

That's a good question. I will be going regardless, but the next weekend would actually be better for me too - with the current dates I'm going to be missing the wedding of a guy that I mentored in college. That's how committed I am to the Duluth Run. But if the date slipped a week, I'd be viewed less as an asshole by my old college friends. |

I know that Christine was interested in going but she's going to be out of town...I'm not sure if she'll be back the week after or not - maybe we could talk about the Duluth run sometime at the Rally to see what works out for people?
If not, I might think about doing the Duluth run sometime anyway. Especially after Dave's solo trip to Denver and then sitting at Betty's listening to Tom's 71 year old friend talk about driving a scooter that only goes 23 mph all the way to Sturgis and back - it was definitely an interesting tale. |

That would be Jack Kelvie--local Long Distance rider. The scoot he took is a Honda Express. WFO all the way and still couldn't hit 30...

I too would like to do the Duluth run but will not be back in the states until Sept 18th. And unfortunately as interesting as I find the idea of a scoot around Lake Superior to be I think it's the same weekend as the TC marathon and I am already signed up to help hand out water. |

So at the Rally we got the chance to talk a lot about the Duluth Run, and here's the details as we know them right now:
We'll be going up Friday morning - meeting up 8:00 AM or so at coffee shop in Como Park like last year. We'll take off 9:00 or 9:30, and we'll be taking the Minnesota route up (mostly the old pre-Interstate 61 route). We'll spend all day Saturday in Duluth, ride up the North Shore, and maybe meet up with any Duluth scooterists who want to? Then we'll come back down the Wisconsin side, mostly highway 35, on Sunday.
There will be no support vehicle - if you break down, you're on your own. Except, of course, we'll have at least four Stellas and a Bajaj so many parts are compatible, we'll have extras of some stuff, and some tool kits. Definitely only open to scooters that can hold speeds above 50 for 200 miles. We'll stop about once an hour so my sorry ass can fill up my gas tank.
Right now we have five definites - me, Michelle, Dave Marquis, Brad, and Eric. I think we may also have Kevin. Robert, you going? Anybody else? Does this "plan" sound good? |
