What? Anything less than 600 miles for me is a walk in the park. :-)

Canal park would be far better than West Duluth, and Superior is not a bad option all though the hotels are less abundant. A nice ride out of Superior is on the old highway all the way out to Bayfield/Madeline Island (about 70 miles). There is a brand new country suites near the Duluth airport with an Outback Steak House in the parking lot also that maybe an acceptable option. If your coming for the weekend my pick would be Canal Park as its central to everything else and sits right on the water.

I've successfully pricelined a 2-star hotel in Duluth for $40/night the last 4 times I've visited. It always turns out to be the downtown Holiday Inn, which is really pretty good. There's a parking ramp with some spots for motorcycles right at the front. Just a thought.

If you do decide to go up to thunder bay and need to stretch your legs, I would suggest stopping to check out some of the old fire towers near old hwy 61. It's unmaintained road (yikes!) but some really great hiking back there.

HOTELS

Things are looking expensive, kids. The cheapest hotel in town that I've been able to find that actually has rooms is the Best Western Downtown, which is a rather painful $100 per night - or $90 per night for AAA members.

There are cheaper hotels out a little ways, or in Superior, but in my opinion if we're staying out of downtown anyway we might as well stay at the Motel 6, which is cheap at $60 per night, clean, and has breakfast right across the parking lot.

I'm willing to go for the Best Western downtown - it's a great location - but it might be a little rich for everybody. I suggest the Motel 6 like last time.

after staying at the motel 6 last year. I would be fine staying there again. I liked how close the gas station and the breakfast spot was as well as it being clean and cheap. my $.02

I prefer to pay for convenience, but that's just me. Anything within walking distance of canal park (long walk ok, but not tooo long) would be cool with me. That motel 6 ride back on Sat Night after dinner was a little rough.

There are always taxis. Getting five drunk scooterists into one cab shouldn't be a problem, and then it's like $2 each.

My only concern with being closer to canal park is that we might be riding more than we think and paying $100 a night just to have a place to sleep near canal park is a bit much for this caballero?

I can share a room with some one if they would like. Then it would only be 50.00 a night and no THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!
