Anyone out there have a backplate from the front brake hub of a P200 they'd like to get rid of/sell? It's the piece that the brake shoes, speedo, and front brake cables connect to.
I cracked a piece off of mine tonight trying to remove the brake shoes from the pivot points. Speaking of, anyone know a good trick to remove those shoes? Maybe cut/disconnect the return spring first?
I hope they're paying you for all this shilling you're doing for them.
Nope not a paid endorsement. Just seems like people need to be hit over the head to realize that there are other shops out there. "everytime I order from scomo or scooterworks I get the wrong thing or it's on backorder"
then STOP ORDERING FROM THEM...

The first rule when working on anything is don't break anything. If you are applying so much force that you could break what your working on you are doing something wrong - stop.
Yes, yet by that first rule the only way to find you're doing something wrong is to break something. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that...

Yes, they are a pain to get off. One way -- as you thought -- is to cut the return spring. This will obviously require you to buy a new spring. You will also need to be careful when you cut it as it is under pressure. In the cases where the method below does not work you will have to resort to this.
Another way is to first lubricate the locator pins in a SMALL amount of oil (You will need to make sure that **NO OIL** gets on the new shoes) and slowly pry the shoes up one at a time. (let the oil soak in first.) As you get one up a little bit move over to the other one and gently but firmly pry it up. Once that is up a bit move over to other one and so on.
If you are having to put enough pressure on the plate to break it that is obviously too much. Go slow and be patient, let that oil soak in.
Cheers and good luck,
