Did anyone else notice that the ad below the article is for Sturgis Bike Week...

That guy was seriously dumb if he signed his real name to that letter. I bet things are going to be pretty noisy around the Denny household for a while.

Charles Denny has an excellent public service record and is a genuinely nice guy. As former corp execs go, he's one of the good guys.

That does not, however, make him right on this particular issue.

Yup, he does seem like an OK guy.

His central argument is flawed. His assumption is that most motorcyclists ride with loud pipes. Although it can seem like that, most motorcyclists and even scooterists I know are running stock equipment.

It is only fair to recognize that there are quiet motorcycles, and that there are motorcyclists who operate their machines in a manner that is respectful of the rights of others. Unfortunately, they are vastly outnumbered by those who crave the production of high-decibel noise.

He also notes that there are already noise regulations on the books, which aren't enforced. So what about enforcing them?

Denny probably lives in a house on a parkway that is frequented by weekend Harley riders and just can't take it anymore. I'm suprised that there haven't been any responses to his editorial yet.

He also seems to think we ride maybe six months a year. Whatever, the guy is uninformed.

Stay tuned. I know of several people writing replies.

I live by Lake Minnetonka and that's all you see all summer. Loud ass Harley riders everywhere. They suck. Total cavemen.

I'd rather hear the Harleys then what I get in my 'hood.

Think loud, window rattlin', lyrics mostly about drugs and demeaning to women gangsta rap, rollin' thru on fancy rims that are worth more than the piece of shit their attached to as they run a four way stop sign. Oh, don't forget about the gunfire. And the 14 yr old pothead from across the street yelling obsenities and other nasty stuff to 6 - 10yr old kids playing in their front yard. By the way, this is the same kid that just the other day stole his mom's john's BMW and took it for a joyride around the neighborhood while his mom and her john were doing you know what. He did 360's in the church lot across the street and when he returned the BMW he drove it up onto the blvd. Dh and I just sat on our porch watching the whole thing and wondering out loud to each other, why are we paying so much $$ for cable when we got this shit for free across the street.

I would gladly trade him his loud motorcycles for the shit I got here. A few days of this and he would be begging for the Harleys back.

nah, would you believe it is acutally very nice around here. there is only one problem house within a two block radius and that's the one across the street. I have a feeling they won't be there very long once Sec 8 gets wind of the police calls to their house.

the other stuff is from folks who don't even live around here, they are just passing through.

Gunshots can acutally be heard for quite a ways away. and that's all on the west side of Chicago ave. I'm east of Chicago.

some noise is just part of living in an urban/suburban area. For the rest of it that gets out of hand. law enforcement needs to enforce the laws they have on the book. they don't.

There's only us and them.

I don't mind loud motorcycles or loud rap or loud scooters, you old folks need to lighten up :).
