I was just on the phone with scooterworks for something and decided to ask a question about something I have often wondered. What does this do exactly? He didn't know and after asking around said he only got blank stares. I asked why they even sell it then, but again; no idea.

This one's for all the the hardcore vintage guys, you know who you are.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying it's a lighting coil. Deffinetly not a bottle opener or a supository.

Did you pic that stuff up from your brother yet?

Chris

Something has to feed the coils they just don't feed themselves...

Low tension internal coil of a magneto. Feeds an external high tension coil. This is for generating a spark at the spark plug.

Look up the definition of "magneto" or "electro magnetic fields". That will give you an idea how it works. There are also books on Magneto systems. Magnetos have been around for many years.

Ok, I was looking at the _real_ magneto lnk on Wikipedia as well, and then noticed that the icon they use to denote "automotive related link" looks an awful lot like the Haynes 2 stroke spark plug picture.

So if one would have weak or no spark from a stator, one would consider one of these. Are they on both internal and external coil Stators? I think yes, but I could be wrong. I am a lot.

No chris, not yet. Should be soonly though. Did you get the shirt or is Matt trying to sell it to you instead?

I'm not having any problem related to it; I was just curious. Now that scooterworks lost Rob H, I can't seem to get a straight answer when I call.

Old Jedi never die. They just marry strippers and have babies.

No chance. I stored the VBB in my house over the winter and have been enjoying it all spring. I was recently hornswaggled into fixing a local guys Vespas and just came to the blank realization that I really had no concept of what that coil did. That VBB will remain as it is until it ceases to operate; at that time I may actually allow it to be in the same room as a wrench.
