So this morning I'm riding along and I have the throttle all the way open in 4th gear. I'm cruising along at about 45mph, when all of a sudden it starts acting weird.
No weird sounds, it just slows down for a second every once in a while. Like how it feels when you downshift, but without the actual shifting. It's not the brakes, it just feels like something is a bit off.
Happened again going home.
Any ideas? |

Melting spark plug? Some kind of soft seize? |

Ya, I'd say it's seizing up. If not that then misfiring a whole bunch in spurts. take a look at the plug.
I'm watching a hot dog factory program on the history channel. The links were flying through this machine to get separated. It was bad ass. |

I think it doesn't like being referred to in the third person. |

It doesn't mind terribly.
Well, I cleaned the plug (a little gummy, but not white and crusty), and added some extra oil to the mix, just to be safe. I then rode around for about 30 miles - some stop & go, some parkway, some highway.
It's still happening. The only time that it seems to happen is then the throttle is open all the way. Otherwise, it runs just fine.
Weird. |

Dude don't ride it till you figure it out, if it's soft seizing you'll be doing a rebuild soon.
Is that one points or cdi? |

Ya, it's probably electrical but adding oil will lean things out if you are seizing or gum things up more if you are misfiring. Just keep it at 2% and sort the rest. I would pop for a fresh exhaust, condensor, points and maybe coil if they all are original or haven't been replaced in a while. You could always take off the head and look in to see if you have any aluminum smears on the walls of the cylinder to tell you if you've been siezing up. |

Brooke, why are you so sure its electrical?
How many miles on the exhaust? Probably not enough to justify a replacement. IMO
Good luck Jeremy. Just remember you are dealing with "interweb experts"! |

It's impossible to say but I don't think it is electrical or the exhaust. It's up to Jeremy if he wants to start replacing that stuff. |

I here I thought it was required that he had to do what people said on the internet.
You could just keep quiet on what you think it is and wait for others to offer even more offbase advice for you to be negative about, but it's up to you. |

It's more fun to poke holes in your theories. It's a nice change. |
