Even sliding slowly down a city street in a leather jacket isn't any fun. I sure am glad that I learned my "wear your gear" lesson when it was cold outside. I like my skin and would like to keep it thanks. I don't think that is dorky at all!
That picture of the dope with no gear and a helmet. What, does he think he's going to fall off his bike and only land on his head? Like some freakish Weeble Wobble??? If I had to choose between wearing all the gear but no helmet or no other gear But the helmet, I'd choose covering everything from the neck down.

Everything from the neck down doesn't exist for you once you spread your brains on the pavement. No Helmet, No Brains! Anyone remember the research done on rider clothing material in simulated accidents back in the late 70s or early 80s. Blue Jeans lasted less than 5 seconds in the pavement tests. Leather gear at the time faired better, but only by additional seconds. The tests simulated low, moderate, and high speed accidents, and showed how quickly materials were ground or torn away. Slide on your ass wearing pants made of cotton at highway speed and you could kiss your ass goodbye since the road would have additional stripes painted in red. Personal Protection Equipment didn't really exist back then, it was just motorcycle clothing. Alot has changed since those tests were done. Wished I remembered who published the tests. It was in depth and very interesting in a scary way. The test article got me to wear gloves on a regular basis even if I didn't wear the rest of the motorcycle clothing.
