since your motherinlaw is the sole survivor of the owner I believe that makes her the "owner" of the truck so she would be able to sign the tittle over to the new buyer. Maybe, but what the hell do I know?
I vaguely recall standing in line behind someone in the same situation. The survivor came in with the buyer and they were told that they needed a death certificate and/or a statement of inheritance or something like that. But she may have to transfer it into her name first, it could have been just the first step they were referring to in the procedure.
sign the title. give it to the guy. is the dmv going to check this? or are they going to see a signiture and issue a new title to the guy who buys it?
Trust me. I work with DMV all the time. This is the way to go.
I go with Bob on this one. It's probably more important to report the sale to the DMV, so that you don't get on the hook for any tickets or accidents after it is sold and you hand off the title to the buyer. I think it's the law now to report the sale.
