Don't we have the contact info for one of the baron QA engineers? We could probably get these design concerns worked out pretty quickly if we just go straight to the top...

I think "design" is the wrong term. I think the model is assemble to order.

I think that in China scooters are spec'ed out to assemblers and then they order parts from manufacturers. That's why the polution control equipment ended up under the battery box and the battery ended up in the helmet compartment under the seat. It's a mix of good and bad, depending on where the parts were manufactured, if they match and how good the assemblers are. There is a couple of other Baron Retro's at work, and they don't look exactly like mine, some of the parts are different. Probably a low-bid to spec sort of deal, and Americans like low prices...

You still generally get what you pay for. Anyhow, it's interesting owning one.

True. Since this a scooter that I won, I have $186 in title, tax and license and about $10/month in insurance (I can shut that off when I'm not riding, but if it gets stolen or burns down with the garage, I'll be out of luck). Plus whatever my time is worth to sort it out.

It would of been difficult to sell in the fall and the warranty is non-transferable. I'm considering this an extended test drive and will probably sell it in the spring, maybe put it in the motorcycle trader as used next to all of those new Baron ads. Some cheap ba$#%d will probably buy it. Maybe Brooke will buy it, take all the plastic off and shove a diesel motor in it. lots of options.

It has been a fun/interesting fall diversion so far.

Motorcycles are prohibited from parking in bike rack areas. This will
be monitored so your compliance is appreciated.

Well, I think I found out the "Motor Scooters" means mopeds. I got an email from a friend at work yesterday, she got a parking ticket on her buddy.
