I mostly just wanted to post a message because I think the new look and fuctions are cool.

But, as this is for rally related info...I'll say that I'll contact the venue-related sponsor types after they're locked in, and concentrate on others before then.

I was considering contacting James Page as a potential sponsor for the rally but a have a few questions --

It seems like there are some strong opinions around what companies might make acceptable sponsors. Would this company be something that would cause a huge fuss? Any general opinions on sponsorship issues?

I remember scooter folk led their beer run last year - with a tiny detour. I'm assuming that this didn't cause a big stink, but I wasn't there. I found it very amusing actually, and hoping they did too. If anybody could share the details, I'd appreciate it so that I sound informed if they bring it up.

Lastly, does anybody recall who asked the regulars to lead the race?

Thanks!

Personally, I'd prefer Summit over Jame Page. And possibly Schell's (Premium) ahead of that. Maybe.
However, the fact that I'm not doing legwork to procure either of these two places as sponsors can pretty much means I have no particular right to complain in any particular fashion. The James Paige people might be amenable to this type of thing, which helps a lot.

And at the end of the day, my favorite beer is the one offered free. Or cheaply.

I believe the person who recruited us for the James Page fun run worked for a PR firm that organized the run. I've got her email address at home, will post it later. Maybe she could refer you to someone at James Page. We met some people from JP but I don't remember any names.

Yes, thanks to the scooterists (myself included) the run became more of a 6-7k. But no one but a few of the elite runners was upset about it. What happened was the police escort (who knew where he was going) stopped & waived us by at the end of the Stone Arch bridge. Ken had the PR person on his scooter, but she stopped and got off at the same point. We knew we had to go down the river road & turn around, but we were not sure where. So we took 'em a little further than we were supposed to. Another friendly cop at a roadblock straightened us out.

I'll never forget looking over at Kenny Libido & asking "Do you know where we are going?" He responded "NO, do you?" Meanwhile we have this herd of runners following us like lemmings.

Afterwards, when we were collecting our beer, we shared laughs about it with the PR folks & the JP folks. It was a "fun run" after all. Everyone agreed that next year they will have us scout the route with one of them beforehand.

Very amusing!

Please do post the person's contact info - that would be great.

I'll check into the others as well - just thought they might like to return a favor. (Maybe sneak in front and take the ride in a new direction?)

Thanks!

Julie Swenson -- 952-593-5000 ext.1, -- was the woman who posted about leading the Beer Run.

While we're on the topic, how DO you decide what's an "acceptable" sponsor and what's not?

Pretty much who ever is willing, but I wouldn't want Camel, or a major booze company. I know Summit figures out their budget early, so someone may want to hit them asap. I forget you talked to them last year, but they said their money was already spent..

Sorry - a bit off the subject, but am I supposed to see an image under your signature. Do I have a funky setting on my machine that prevents me from seeing it or am I supposed to see a link path?

Just trying to get caught up on the new BBS technolgy.

I'll try Summit, and if it doesn't work, call James Page. In my word it's okay to have competitors sponsoring the same event, but I don't know how beer people feel about such things. I'll try later this afternoon or tomorrow and let you know if I get anywhere.

Only if you model a baby T with their logo on it.
