What do people think about making a fall run when the weather is a little cooler? I talked to ED at scooterville and he said that you can also take HWY 35 on the Wisconsin side. Wadda ya think about that?

The major issue with later in the year is the declining daylight hours. Set a date, book a campsite, find a friendly local bar. Let everyone know, and we can all ride up as we like. Those who want to stay in hotels can sort out their own accomodation. That way everyone's happy.
As for myself, I'd rather it be in August at the latest. I'll be moving away after then, and too far away for a weekend ride to Duluth. |

the daylight isn't really an issue. Even my route only took 4 hours, and it would probably make the most sense to leave saturday morning and come home sunday afternoon.
I don't think I personally will be ready to do it again for a few weeks, but if someone wants to organize an earlier date, i'd be more than happy to give my two cents as far as routes/events/orginization...Also, i don't think it should be too close to the rally (Aug13-15).
as it stands, FOR ME, i think this will formulate during august and probably end up being a Fall Colors ride. It can't be too late cos it does get cold up there, but to really get it organized will require another practice run with a better route, hotel/campsite booking, contacting scooterisi in Duluth, etc.
It will happen eventually. But i would like it to be well attended and ridden together!! Thanks everyone for showing interest!
p.s.-so much for running in a kit this fall!!! |

What about August 27 - 28? That would work great for me - my wife and daughter would drive up and I'd meet them for a hotel stay, then rejoin the group the next morning. They've never been to Duluth before (!) and would like to come along in the car. Perhaps they could even serve as the sag wagon? We just have a hatchback, but could carry gear that doesn't fit on the scoots and generally make it easier for people... |

That would work for me. I might even ride up on the Friday. |

This sounds like fun. To do this before Labor Day sounds like it would work. |

Alway's lurking, rarely posting and seem to be alway's unavailable to make any of the Sunday, Tuesday rides, but I plan on being at the rally. I would like to add my 2 cents if I may. It appears that at the Indian Point campround they take pictures of campers from the previous year and post them on their website. It would be pretty cool to see a group picture of scooterists enjoying their campground with all of the scooter's, scooterist's and tents in the background? Just a thought. And yes, I would love to take this ride!!! |

I'm missing Scooter Du this year, so this might be my only opprotunity for a long group ride this year.
I'd be good to go the weekend b4 or after labor day. Duluth is actually pretty quiet the weekend after labor day and it's still reasonably warm out. Fall colors is crowded and colder.
I'm not a big casino guy, but I'd guess that the rooms and food would be pretty cheap. I'd be willing to throw the tent and sleeping bag on the back of the scooter and do a little lightweight camping also (camp but eat out and ride around Duluth).
I'd assume that we are talking about riding reliable scooters, capable of sustaining at least 45 mph to Duluth. Not necessarily a sag coming along, everybody take care of their own gear/stuff.
So Questions:
Weekend B4 or after Labor Day (August or September)?
Camp or Casino?
Drive up via Wisc or MN?
Where do we ride in Duluth?
I'd be willing to help plan this Mini-Cannonball - who else is in? |

Oops, I take that back. I was thinking of a different weekend. I've wanted to make that run for some time though, and just would want to do it in mass. |

Well, I'd prefer the Aug 27 weekend, which is the weekend before Labor Day, but I think the weekend after Labor Day might work for me as well, that would be the weekend of September 10, right? I'll be hotelling it with my wife and daughter, but I'm just excited to do the ride anyway. Perhaps we should put up a poll to choose the date: August 27-28 or September 10-11. How do we do that? |
