So I have a helmet, which is good. The only thing is that I don't like that the chin strap is attached by 2 "D" rings. Is it a terrible idea to attach a quick clip device?

Don't tinker with your helmet. Those clips will fail you and yer' noggin' in a crash. That strap might slap the shit out of your face but at least you won't be dead which, for most people I know, is a good thing.

Thanks...sometimes you just need to hear it again to stop yourself from doing something stupid.

for what its worth-
I bought one of the quick release's for my passenger helmet (got tired of threading straps for my passsengers)....
in any case- it is kind of a piece of crap. I've been meaning to remove it for a month.
It's big, bulky, digs into your cheek, and the strap is still flapping in the breeze...
Also- a common problem is that it the clip can be put into the recepticle crooked, with only one side latching... which I'm sure isn't safe. I notice it when its on a passenger- but I probably wouldn't notice it if it was on my helmet unless I checked under my chin in the mirror....
Lastly- it doesn't really save any time... when I take off my helmet I don't completely unthread the strap- so I can just put the helmet on and cinch it up- which is easier than trying to get the clip in the recepticle....

Great points! Now I even feel better about not doing it to my helmet.

My Nolan flip-face came with a quick latch, a rather substantial one. Kind of a ratchety deal. One of the features that sold me on it - besides fit, of course.
