Hobby? Not sure if that's the right word. Addiction might be more on the mark. In my experience, everbody here in our little group thearapy session just makes it worse. You're all ENABLERS. How many people here have reduced the sizes of garages or ended up with fewer scooters than when you started this "hobby?" Not too many I'd bet. Gosh, had it not been for you folks, I would have given up on my Allstate years ago (I think some would argue I still should - but I love it so I never will). It would still be in buckets in my garage. The people here help you get something going, you get a little taste and then need more more more.....
Vespar Frame? Is that a typo or something I don't know about?
If you are refering to the Vespa frame, I need to weld a new floorpan as the one that's on there is reduced to dust. A nice little pile of rusted metal has collected under the scooter as I was pulling the engine.
The frame, other than the floorpan, is actually in pretty decent shape. The left hand compartment (on the back) has a bit of rust on the bottom and may need some extra love. Sand blasting, hand sanding, soaking in special solution, turning it over to a body shop to remove the rust... the options are endless.
At this point I'm committed to doing ALL of the work (save some $$$, create memories and bragging rights are enough motivation). That is until I get too far into doo-doo and I need professional back-up.
The best way to save money is to have a very large family of welders, finishers, painters, moter techs, parts suppliers etc. It'll be fun for sure. We should have pic post section for peoples projects (my GL to start soon, project, motor install is a way off yet) Good luck on it.
