There was an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday about Stella and Phil McCaleb.
Some of the highlights are: "...scooter sales in 2004 doubling to 86,000 from 42,000 in 2000..., new scooters coming out will target off-and on-road riders and high performance speedsters in addition to the commuters..."
Stella also hopes to launch a scooter trailer by Christmas (inspired by the shiny Airstream trailers of the 50's).
He also referenced "Skooter Du" as one of the rallies that he has participated in.
I think Phil is trying to even out his sales with the timing of this article. It's an excellent strategy.
Who in our group do you think will be the first to buy the off-road and high performance models when they come out in February 2006?

Thanks for pointing out the article. Very cool.
Three new, slightly more modern Genuine Scooter Co. models for 2006 to compete in mainstream, pre-established markets, it says. Also that they will all comply with California's emission standards, which will be a boon to scooterists on the west coast.
And that airstream-esque scooter trailer has piqued my interest, I must say.
Does the GTS share the same body as the GT, just with more stuff? I can't really imagine that it would be lower or lighter.
As for the cost, I think it's just what you want to pay. Would you rather drive a Ford Focus or a Mini? It's kind of like that. We could probably all get by with used Vegas, but who would want to? 5-6k isn't out of line when you compare it to a Reflex, Burgman or Majesty.
The question is, what should I own for how I drive (commute from a second ring suburb to Minneapolis)? Should I own more than one? How much is a certain style worth? Do I give a rats ass about how I look or what anyone else thinks? In a cost-benefit analysis what machine should I own? Should I just get what trips my trigger, to hell with everything else?
