Well, after getting back to my hotel after a 24-hour movie marathon, I remembered reading that the Piston Broke SC met on Sundays at a coffee shop right next door to the hotel. I carried the iBook over to check my email only to find there was a concert going on in the parking lot. No scoots yet, I nerded out on the shop's free wifi. I was getting up to leave when I noticed that 5 bikes had parked on the other side of the building, 2 PX150s two older largeframes and a Lambretta. Nobody was hovering over them, so I skulked around them, hoping someone would come over. No luck, so I looked inside and asked the only two people with helmets if they were with the scooter club. They gave me a quizzical look, so I retreated and got some BBQ.
Oh well, I tried. |

Sure, the one Sunday I end up not going to Jo's someone from Minneapolis shows up. Go figure. Well, glad you were able to enjoy some music anyway.
Yeah the Sunday crowd down here has been a bit odd compared to Minneapolis. People kind of show up and don't really seem to hang out together. Sometimes there are rides, but they aren't always announced until a bunch of people pull away. Most people seem friendly enough, I just think there is some tension between some individuals and one or two clubs that hasn't been sorted out yet. I do like the concept of multiple clubs having a time to all meet at once though. On a related note someone just started an all girls/women scooter club. I like the concept, but they chose to meet at the same time as the all club meeting. Kids these days...
So far the Austin Texas "winter" seems totally fine for scootering. Okay, there was one day where a little freezing rain turned into ice on the roads and the city shut down, but other than that it is fine. Mornings are fairly cool but generally above freezing. By the afternoon it gets almost to 70. The added bonus is that it is far enough south that the sun sets a lot later than Minneapolis. Can't stand the Minnesota winters anymore you say, try Austin! |

Yeah, sorry, I left your number at home so I didn't call you. After being awake for 30+ hours, I really felt like riding around town. Maybe next time I'll pack the Atomic Bombstella in my carry-on luggage. |
