I've been thinking, the longest day of the year is about June 22. At that time there is 15 hours of sunlight.
There has been a Paul Bunyon bike race that has done the loop from Anoka, around Mille Lacs Lake and back for years.

For the real Mad Bastard scooter rally, they do on one-day loop around lake ontario. I bet we could have our own and do a one day ride around Mille Lacs and back! For the Duluth Run, we did 190 mile each day, this would be just a couple miles more. Start and end at Psyco Suzies... Lunch in Garrison.
Just a winter thought... |

Know know I will be in for it. :-)
Brad,
Have you have a chance to think about a 3 dayer?

I'd be up for that too if you don't think I'd slow things down too much with my stock stella... |

Are you thinking to Duluth again, with a swing North along the shore (staying ing Duluth two nights), or did you have somewhere else in mind?
I've been daydreaming about different stuff. We could:
* Do the Duluth Run again (same or different weekend)
* Add a day to the Duluth Run
* Run up to Itasca State Park, and thereabouts, stay in a cabin outside the park or in Park Rapids. This might be to far.
* Go on a one or two night camping trip, instead of hoteling it. Lake city has a nice city campground. Or we could get a group site at a state park.
* Combine a longer ride/overnight with someone else's rally, such as the one in Mankato, the Dells, or a possible one in St. Cloud
* Brainerd
* Pick a ride into Wisconsin somewhere and back
The weekend after labor day worked well for the overnight, though I would have liked more time at Wheels and Wings. A earlier ride might be good to, except we're taking more of a chance with rain the first couple of weeks in June. There are many options. My main deal is that I want to ride and not be responsible for a party where some scooters happen to show up, because its no fun for me to be worrying if someone is going to get hurt or be arrested.
I like the big loop in one day idea, because it's short (one day) and simple to plan with no hotel costs and a lot of riding.
I'm going to start scouting a route and date for the Mille Lacs deal. Let me know if you'd like to do Duluth again, maybe with an additional day or have any other ideas. |

You can count me in for another Duluth run, three day weekend or camping. I even like the lake Mille Lacs thought as well. |

I like your ideas Brad. I would like to keep it in MN if possiable. Maybe a run up to Canada/Thunder bay.
Does anyone want to meetup and discuss ideas over coffee?

I think another 3-day duluth trip is definitely do-able. I was just wondering how many wanted to do it two years in a row and if we could add a day.
The Mille Lacs loop would work well also.
We just have to be careful not to pull any energy away from the rally. But these longer rides have a more low-key vibe.
So....on my personal mental list of events now
June - Mille Lacs One-Day Loop
August - Rally
September - Duluth
Plus possible New London/New Brighton (for vintage), St. Cloud or Manakato rides/rallies and some of the shorter MinnMax rides that I can keep up on. |

I think I can convince kathy (and Maeve) to let me do these without family obligation. Sounds like a great year to me! |

I would definitely be up for another jaunt to Duluth on my Chetak, Brad. This past September's run ranks as one my two favorite rides for 2005.
The Mille Lacs One-Day Loop sounds cool and one I would also consider. In fact, if you want someone to help scout out the route in Spring'06, let me know.
And as always, all are welcome to join in on Minn-Max rides where they feel comfortable with the distance and speeds involved.

I think that I'm going to look around for the Twin Cities Bicycle Club route book. They have maps for all of their event routes. That might give us a good idea for a route from the Anoka start to around the Mille Lacs and back.
We could meet at a good breakfast joint in the morning. There might be some sights to see on the route and we could even do another casino stop. I'm thinking we could end at a spot like Psyco Suzies (seems appropriate).
Lets think... about 250 miles round trip if we left from more in town and 15 hours of sunlight. That would be an average of under 20 miles per hour with stops.
I'd be willing to spring for gas and meals if someone wanted to drive a sag. If not, we could do the same as last year - call your significant other to come and get you if there are problems.
Saturday might be better for this. We'd have Sunday to recover then. I'm going to have to check the calendar to see what date(s) might work in the later part of June. |
