I spent last weekend updating my 2006 calendar. The date that I am most available for a Mille Lacs run is Saturday, June 3.

June 4 is my anniversary, June 10 might be my son's birthday party and the rest of the weekends are Boy Scouts. Ohh.. family life.

My recollection of early June is that it is warm, but has a higher chance of an occasional rainstorm. True summer solstice is June 22, but we should still have a plenty long day June 3. Not sure how this conflicts with MinnMax or Minnescoota's schedule.

I took a look at a map. A probable route from Anoka might be 7th ave North until it turns into Highway 47 in St. Francis, then take 47 all the way to Mille Lacs. There might be some alternative county roads, but I'm not sure what is asphalt until scouting this spring.

If you wanted to start at Betty's, we could take Marshall/E River Rd all the way to Anoka. If you wanted to start in St. Paul, we could take lexington north until it runs out, then go west and pick up 47 North of Anoka. This would probably be prettier, but a longer ride.

From Anoka, around the lake and back is about 200 miles (the same as one day of the Duluth Run). Any mileage to Anoka would be extra. Maybe 250 miles total?

Brad,

The Mille Lacs run sounds cool. I like it.

Check out Google Earth. Even if it's not totally useful, it might spark some ideas.

I never noticed before, Google maps has this hybrid feature that lays major roads over the satillite picture.

Cool, thanks Moses.

The resolution in the country is still not good enough to tell if it is gravel, but you can almost go sightseeing.

Hi, Brad. I'm looking forward to the Mille Lacs run and my offer still stands to assist in a scouting trip prior to the date if you'd like.

Minn-Max deliberately schedules most of our rides for the second and fourth weekends of the month to limit conflicts with the first and third Sunday Minnescoota runs. As June 3rd is the first Saturday of the month, that works out perfectly in my schedule.

I like the idea of starting out at Betty's. A hot cup of coffee could be just the ticket for a long ride like this one.

Sounds good to me - I'm clearing my schedule...

Done.

Yippee, a new Marathon ride for early summer!

I also penciled in Sept 8, 9, and 10 for Duluth.

I have been doing some research on Map24 and it looks like twilight Rd\ Cr-35 is the way to go around lake milacs atleast part of the way on the western side of the lake. There ar emany smaller roads to take to get off of 169.

If Grant is still monitoring this forum, maybe he can chime in with some route suggestions. He lead a Minn-Max ride around Mille Lacs a few years back.

That would be great if we could do a scouting run and if Grant has some ideas. I'm still wondering what route the Twin Cities Bicycle club uses for their loop from Anoka. Maybe I'll send them an email.

What is 169 like up there? It is pretty much the only road that makes the loop. Oh and 18/47 also on the eastern side. I think we will want to keep it at a reasonable pace like the Duluth run. I really enjoyed the 50 mph pace myslef.

I know that 169 by Garrison is going to be a little iffy. I'm not sure if it's two lane or not.

We'll have to take a day to do some scouting.
