Hey all,

So I was preemptively doing some work on my Stella today, and one of the tasks was to replace my clutch outer cable. Well, I picked one up at Scooterville, came home, and with a little help from Dave, pulled it through. Only after scooterville was closed did I discover that they'd sold me the wrong cable! The top end of the outer fits right through the piece that's supposed to hold it back to allow for the inner to move without the outer moving. And they're not open until Tuesday at 11:00, so I'm stuck for my Monday and Tuesday rides to work.

Best case scenario is that Scootervillain sees this and grabs a *proper* Stella clutch cable set, lets me know he's done so, and then brings it to the Motorcycle show tomorrow - where I can pick it up from him while I'm there, come home, and (hopefully) get the cable installed.

But that seems unlikely, since (among other things) he checks the board infrequently. If anybody else has one they'd be willing to lend me, I'll come and pick it up tomorrow, and give you a replacement Tuesday. Or, I can pay cash for it instead. As a sanity measure, I always make sure that any project I start on the Stella can be finished before I go to bed that day; or at least that the Stella will be rideable by the time I go to bed. That's not going to happen this time...

You're missing the 'top hat' you reuse your old one, but it could of fallen into the frame or on the ground or somewhere. Look around where you were working and hope it didin't fall into the body

you lost/dropped this Top Hat

Aha, that *is* in fact what I'd need - thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I don't have one I can use - the LML stock outer clutch cable has a piece that looks exactly like that squeeze-fitted on the end instead of the nub found on the cable I got at Scooterville. Apparently LML builds those into its cables. So I bet if I got one of those I'd be set. That's good news - it means I don't have to pull a new clutch outer cable - but I won't be able to get it until Tuesday. Thanks for the info!

Cut off the end of the old cable and you're set.

Just curious why you'd change the outer on a pretty new scoot?

Well, unfortunately LML seems to have left something just rough enough at the point where the clutch cable and the electrical connections pass through that I recently started losing my high beam in 4th gear. When I was in there looking at that, I noticed that the same rough spot had cut almost entirely through the outer cable. The plastic was gone, and the metal part of the outer cable was noticably scored. I decided I'd rather replace it now than wait until I'm in the middle of a commute.
