Don't know how many RPMS they are spinning at 80 MPH, but he did pretty much show up a guy on a crotch rocket thou on the hennipen bridge. I was doing about 50 or so and they way, way ahead........ Robert was there. Crazy stuff! Nate, must got a nitro setup in there... :-)

3.14 * 10 = 31.4 " around
80 mph in inches per minute is 84400
84400/31.4 = 2690 rpm
I don't know what gearing he's running, so you'd have to deal with that before you could figure out engine RPM. |

3.14 * 10? is it running on rims?
80 mph would be about 7.5K assuming stock gearing and no loss at the wheel. To hit 100 a bikes gott have about 35+ ponies (where one can probably hit 80 with about 15-16 hp). Low weight helps but cutting air is a bitch. |

Ummm, no, your math's not quite right. The *wheel* has a 10" diameter, not the outside of the tire. I'm guessing the rolling surface is more like a 16" diameter and 16*3.14 ~= 50 and 84400/50 is a much saner 1688 rpm. The standard Stella's fourth gear has a 5.39:1 final ratio, which means 9100 RPMs for a standard Stella at 80MPH with a 21/68 primaries assuming my estimate of approx. 16" across the tire is correct. A fireball, with a 23/66 primary set would yield a 4.7 final drive in fourth (by my math), which means a still saner 7900 RPMs at 16" across the tire.
So 80MPH, while difficult for a 150, shouldn't be impossible. And since you're talking lammys, you get a few extra ccs to boot.
If anybody knows what the actual outside diameter of a 10" scooter tire is, please provide info! |
