Are you using a basic modem dialup or something else? If you are using the microsoft firewall in XP S2, turn it back on, it's not your problem. If you are using MS ie with dial-up, check in Tools-->Internet Options --> Connections. Check your most basic ie settings before going after anything else like firewalls or other programs. You'll most likely find the problem in your ie browser settings. MS ie does share some system settings with other browsers, that could screw them up as well.
