I know a buddy that is looking for a scooter. He is just looking for a twist and go to get around town. What do you think of this one?

Grant had one. I think there is a difference between the Metropolitan I and Metropolitan II. They are both four-strokes. I believe the Metropolitan has a bigger carb and goes faster (motorcycle plates). The Met II has a smaller carb and is licensed as a moped. The slow one goes 30 mph and the "fast" one goes 38 mph. At least that's as fast as I could remember Grant riding. Check online stats to be sure.

They both list for about 1850. Grant liked his. If you got the "faster" 38 mph Metropolitan, 1100 seems like an OK deal for a city bike. I wouldn't buy the slower one - you'll never be happy driving in traffic.

A not-as-cool alternative but maybe faster and cheaper alternative to the Metropolitan would be an Elite 80. Or maybe they are so weird with that "spacy" styling they are cool? Honda has been building them forever and they go 45 ish mph. Good used examples go for $6-800. New they are over 2k.

Maybe you'll get lucky and find a faster Metropolitan with moped plates. If you work downtown, you'd pay for it by saving parking $$.

Will the engine out of my 19" Motorola fit? It's just taking up space in the basement.

I say go vintage and put a Victrola motor in it that will earn you more street cred.
