I guess this means Genuine is *not* going to be importing the LML version of the PK automatika - that's what my wife Kathy *really* wanted, and it sounded vaguely possible that the 125cc import might be just that. Damn.

There was no Pk "automatika" it was the LML Sensation which was a shifter, just an odd shifter with a single cable set up. Scooterworks bought a bunch of those engines thinking they were like regular PK but little did the know.... And ended up selling them pretty cheap.

I think that LML should buy the Chetak 4stroke from Bajaj, now that Bajaj isn't going to be making the metal body scooter anymore. They could stick it in the Stella/star and keep building for awhile.

Vespa will end up having the last metal bodied scooter in the US soon.

When will they quit making metal body scooters? I missed the news.

Genuine will still be selling 2-stroke Stellas for '06, '07. and '08 at least. Personally, I doubt Vespa will keep selling the PX150 here for that long, since Genuine is significantly more committed to the Stella than Vespa to the PX. Each year past '05 it will get harder and harder to recertify the 2-strokes, and I don't think there are any exemptions past '08, so I bet Vespa will decide to bail on the PX considering that it's a tiny portion of its US sales, which are already a tiny portion of their global sales anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

Bajaj is leaving the vespa style behind. The next generation of owners have taken over and apparently small motorcycles are the new big thing. They might still make the 3 wheelers, not sure about that. BajajUSA has switched to ArgoUSA.

Kind of a bummer after the work put into building that 4-stroke motor, but I guess the volume isn't there.

Kinda sucks that Bajajusa is switching scooter brands. I guess that is business, chansing the money....The chetak is/was a decent scooter.

I meant the only metal bodied scooter will be the vespa automatic. The metal shifters will be done.

Hey, whatever happened to the new lambretta? I haven't heard about that for awhile. If I remember right, this was being put together by the same folks as do T'ng?

I looked through the Bajaj/Argo website, notice the change, but didn't see anyhting about changes to the Bajaj. The 2006 is still steel monocoque and the homepage says:

"While we continue to sell and fully support Bajaj Chetak and Bajaj 3 wheelers, we are working to solidify relationships with other scooter manufacturers that can provide us with the quality and reliability that is expected by the American scooter rider. "

Was there something on the Bajaj Yahoo forum? I haven't been keeping up there.

Quick recap on Bajaj...
  • 2006 Chetak & three wheelers are same basic machine as the 2004s and are available.

  • Bajaj has reported that they have ceased production of the Chetak in December 2005.

  • Al, the importer of Bajaj for the U.S. is seeking other scooter lines to sell.

  • If it is profitable, Al would like to keep selling the three wheelers, but whether other Bajaj scooters will be imported by him is unknown. ArgoUSA (formerly BajajUSA) will continue to support the products they have sold in previous years for some time to come.

Retro?

Sure why not. Older ones just about qualify for vintage plates...

Yup, it's real. Here's a link to the press release from the Black Cat fireworks site: http://www.blackcatfireworks.com/news/pressreleases/pr20060216/
