Scooter friendly coffee shop and S.D. Rally sponsor Betty's is hurting from the lack of moto-traffic over the winter months, so I thought I'd try to get this off the ground one more time....
So, who's interested in a Movie Night? Big screen possible if a projector is still available. (I donated a pull down screen when this was discussed a few months back.)
Quadrophenia?
Soon? |

I'd go, with enough notice to plan around it. |

i just made DH get me Qudrophenia from NetFlix! It should arriving in time to watch this weekend. I may let the boyz watch part of it, if I can remember where the parts are they shouldn't see.
Excellent movie to get us primed for scooter riding weather!!
I doubt we would make it to Betty's. I work weekday evenings. sat nights are my best bet. Especially because that's when the boyz spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's. |

With this little interest I don't think it's worth setting up the big screen, but we can still use the telly. I'm going to go ahead and plan something for Wednesday, 3/8. Film will start promptly at 8:00 and the run time is 120 minutes. If I can get a copy from someone here, great. If not, I'll buy my own disc. Let me know if you can help out.
It's my hope that the scooter folk will mobilize here and lend some support to Betty's. Remember, they've generously supported our community! <apply Catholic/Lutheran/etc. guilt here as appropriate>
Note to Krevin: MMM movie review/scooter scene/Betty's article in the making - practically writes itself...

My wife and I use a projector as our primary television. It's mounted to the ceiling with a quick-release mount, so if demand is great enough and I'm available, I can bring a projector. It's a cheap projector, but if you need one it will work. I can see if I'm available on Wed next week... |

REMINDER: Betty's Cinema will be showing Quadrophenia this Wednesday night, March 8. Newly discovered gem "Scooter Sports" will also be screened before and after Quadrophenia. If you're able to stop by, I guarantee you'll like this film!

Hey Matt,
That shot is sweet. I always wonder if people ambling in to see the movie understand the connection to the posse of scooters outside. Call me cynical, but I doubt it. |

I doubt we would make it to Betty's. I work weekday evenings. sat nights are my best bet. Especially because that's when the boyz spend the night at Grandma and Grandpa's. |
I picked up a copy when Adam mentioned the sale at Amazon. My boys are 13 and 10, and it's in a box where they won't find it. Sex, drugs, rock and roll and scooters. Plus lots of coming of age angst. Maybe I'd watch it at some point with the 13 year old, as long as we get a chance to talk about the self-destruction of the main character.
I'll have to say after hearing about Quadrophenia for so many years, I was a bit disappointed in the film the first time I saw it. But then Derrick pointed out that I probably missed the point (especially the angst) because I'm getting a little far away from that point in my life. I'm spending more time sweating if I'll ever be able to retire and college costs than girls and who I am. Different ages/different issues.
I've watched parts of it a couple of more times since, thinking about the context of those times and what it was like to be 19 or 20 years old. The commentary on DVD was also helpful (thanks Derrick). So I've enjoyed it more the second or third time.
Makes me think that vintage scooters represents a culture and we age out. Maybe I'll get a maxi or an old twin, I'm still don't feel mainstream enough for a Harley or Gold Wing : )
OK, I'll stop rambling. Should be a fun viewing. I got a kid thing until 8 but might drive over for a cup of coffee afterward. |
