OK, so the other day Scootervillain was telling me that the name "Stella" came about NOT in reference to Marlon Brando in Streetcar (or even Ned Flanders), but in reference to "Star."

Apparently, the scooter made by LML was marketed across the water as the "Star" and Phil McCaleb wanted a different name for the North American marketplace.

Scootervillain said that "Stella" was Italian for "Star."

This all makes perfect sense to me. Unfortunately, I don't speak any Italian, just Latin (blame our education system), and the Latin for "Star" is "astrum" which doesn't seem very close to "Stella" to me.

Any Italian-speakers out there?

Well, star in spanish is "Estrella", which isn't that far off.

And consulting babelfish.altavista.com reveals that Star is "Stella" in Italian.

So there you go.

Bene, la stella nello Spagnolo "Estrella", che non quello lontano fuori. E babelfish.altavista.com consultantesi rivela che la stella "Stella" in italiano. Cos l andate.
