Hello, I got a Vespa from someone at the end of this summer. The person told me it was a 1971 Bajaj 150. The scooter looks just like a Vespa VLB Sprint. The VIN doesn’t start with, or contain any markings starting with VLB or any other V.. letters, just a 12 digit frame number. I don’t see any information on line that Bajaj made a 150 vespa like this in 1971. The key for the column lock has the name Bajaj on it. Any idea’s where I would find more information on this mystery bike? I don’t have a title yet for it I am still working on that. The scooter has a Piaggio horn emblem on it, and the beat up old seat that I took off of it had a Piaggio metal plate riveted on the back of the seat.
It looks like what your friend said - an early Bajaj 150. It's basically an Indian made Vespa sprint 150 with the early style hexagon headlight. The Indians didn't change much at first (luckily!). It wasn't until the end of the 70's that they messed up the styling. Oh well, Piaggio messed it up too!
To bad all those old Bajaj scooters are getting "converted" to Piaggios.
Remember the "SORE LOSERMAN" signs? That was funny.
