Imagine this, buddy size with 10 inch wheels, plastic body panels, 50cc two stroke, selling all day long for 2800.00.

Too bad none ofthe lambretta projects could somehow find their way to making something like it.

It was one of a series posted on modern vespa. I think they were the concept drawings from the L-Series lambretta. You can see it takes some cues from the GT and has the piaggio wheels and motor. Imagine that about the size of the honda aero 50 or yamaha jog. Of course a hair bit bigger to accomidate the body work but no underseat storage and that could be easily pulled off and look hot, regardless of what grumpy old men think.

Boring marketing departments and a nostalgic general public will never be happy leaving the past alone. People love to buy that crap. They have been trying to pull the Lambretta name out of the grave for years. It's nothing new - Vespa, the Mini, the Bug and soon Fiat... the list goes on and on.

But, don't believe a grumpy old man.

I wouldn't compare those three to the lambretta name resurection. Those exmples are all from companies that are currently functioning and successful. These lambretta projects are mostly out of thin air.

As far as nostalgia goes, I think design themes get brought up again because there is only so much you can do with 2 wheels, a motor and a place to sit. Making them pretty can only come from so many directions so some ideas are recycled. The lambretta D is a rip off of the doodle bug.

Brooke, I know Innocenti is long gone but it's the name(s) that I was talking about.

The Vespa, Mini, and Fiat 500 names were all abandoned and then resurrected. Why? Because they are marketable. The Lambretta name may not be as well known but it is still a nostalgic trip that resurrectors are pursuing.

The D does not look like a doodlebug to me.

My one year old son has a Fiat t-shirt. I think he pooped on it once.
