This is the usual Minnescoota ride scheduled for Pizza Luce on the first Sunday.
Last week we left a little later than 3:00 p.m. and I'd rather not do that again - some folks couldn't stick around long enough to complete the ride. As a result, I'm leaving at 3:00 p.m., sharp. Be there or be left behind.
I plan to do part of the Grand Rounds leading north around Cedar Lake to Theo Wirth Parkway with a stop at Psycho Suzies afterward.
There was nothing but goodness today with all the old-guard and new-guard leaving Luce today. The new-guard folks did a beautifully paced slower ride, lead by Kevin, while the faster old-guard guys did their speedy-own-thing; some of both groups ended up at Psycho Suzie's for face time.
It was great seeing old faces and new faces - thanks!
Which one of you (Egan or Matt) seized? I was ahead trying to catch the pack going up Victory Pkwy. I looked in the mirror and you were gone. I turned around and doubled back but didn't see you anywhere.
I had my own adventure after that. On the Lambretta. I went home to pick up a 21 day temp license that I forgot to give to a Saturday scooter purchaser. I hopped on 100 N to 694 E for a drop off in Columbia Heights. Stopped at a gas station on the way back home at University and 694 for a fill up. Four Harley's roll in. Two chopped.
Is that a 2 stroke? You need an endorsement? Will it do 60? I fired it up and got the thumbs up. Loud pipes and all.
Back on 694 to 100 South. Pretty much wide open the whole way. Need to exit at Duluth. I'm in the center lane. Go for top speed to create some distance on my lane change. Change lanes in anticipation of the exit.
Though I experienced it, I'm having a hard time coming up with words to describe the sensation of a rear tire blow-out at that speed. Suddenly the rear of the scooter began to weave pretty violently. Though it all happens really fast, the mind slows things way down. It doesn't seem possible that you'll keep the bike in control. You think about what a shame to crash such a nice scooter. Will the crash bars help at all? Should I repaint it the same color?
Since I'd never experienced anything quite like this (the closest thing was seizing at 50 mph) I wasn't sure what was happening. I pulled in the clutch because that was what I'd neglected to do the time I seized going 50(I somehow kept that one upright). The rear end was still dancing around like
Ginger Rogers. Oh. I've blown a tire. That's what that feels like. What to do? Try to keep the bike upright and coast to the shoulder. Whew! Made it. Empty pants. Half mile(max) walk to my house for the truck to go pick up the Lammy. Another great day for a ride.
