Bike rack? Parking spot? sidewalk?

I suppose it depends on the size of your scooter.

Do you lock it to something, or just lock the wheel or something?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks,

Lou.

Parking spot or motorcycle parking. (150cc) NEVER in the slashed paint spots of a parking lot. Don't lock it to anything, just lock the wheel.

Have gotten braver in my old age, park it next to the bike rack in downtown Mpls right next to my building (try to leave room for bikes so they don't complain). Saves me about 6-10 a day in parking, more if I'm running to meetings during the day.

Always park on the sidewalk at the grocery, Target or other stores. That's why you own a scooter plus I feel that they should be paying me for the aesthetic sensibility that I lend to their establishments.

When I park it next to a building, I make sure the rear is up close to the wall so it makes it very difficult to read the plate.

I perpendicular-park in between cars in the free parallel-parking spots by my office. I don't bother to lock anything up, though I do use the column lock. The scoot's paid off and I have full insurance on it, so I'm not too worried.

Interesting responses, thanks!

We drove to Sebastian Joe's last night after a celebratory dinner in our new duplex, and I made the mistake of parking in the street parallel to the cars. The guy in the hulking SUV in front of my LX 150 didn't see it as he exited his parking space, and came within inches of hitting my scoot! I almost had a heart attack.

I almost always park on the sidewalk where I can see my scooter from inside of whatever building I'm in. I usually use a disc brake lock. If I have to leave it anywhere out of site for a while, I will use a disc brake lock and an Oxford cable lock attached to a secure object that the scooter cannot be lifted over.

I never park between cars that are parallel parked on the street, unless there is ample room between the cars. It's a good way to have your bike smashed between two cars.

Oops, yeah I meant I parked just as a car would (parallel to the curb).

It's interesting. All the scooters that I saw at Pizza Luce last Sunday seemed to be 150cc or less. But when I go on ModernVespa.com, everyone has these big honkin' 200 and 250 cc GT's and GTS's. Maybe those big scoots need to park with the cars, and my/our smaller scooters can park on the sidewalk?

No. By the books only mopeds can park on sidewalk (scoots with moped plates usually get away with it) But a lot of people do it and depending where you are the parking police probably won't care. Just know it's not legal to park at a bike rack or sidewalk but you can probably get away with it, but you can't complain if you get ticketed or towed.

Why, yes it is. I'm working there now and again.

If your city allows you to get away with parking on the sidewalk, then do it, but only when it does not interfere with pedestrian and wheelchair access. It's better, and it frees up spaces for cars to park, which is a good way to promote it with Joe Public. I used to park up on the sidewalk in front of White Rock Coffee in Highland Park, St. Paul. And you know how street parking is a premium there.
