So is there a Sunday ride today? I was kind of thinking of trying out scooting in the snow just for the hell of it... Besides, my side cowls are currently without scratches, which makes me look like a newbie...

They haven't declared one snow emergency yet, so the streets are a BIT too icy for me. Amy's boss still rides to work every day (near-north suburb to downtown Mpls) on his black Stella w/sidecar!

I just went for a ride and it was really nice out - not *too* cold, really sunny - but yeah, the city of Minneapolis really needs to plow. I was thinking I'd take a ten-mile ride and make a (warmish) entry in the Cold Weather Challenge, but the West River Road and the streets around my house are just too slippery. I chickened out and came home after just 3 miles because I was afraid I'd dump it in front of a car - and all the damn cars were tailing me, which added to the stress.

Once the damn city plows the streets it will be fine. I'm impressed with the d00d who rides in to work from the 'burbs - but then, the sidecar does mainly eliminate the risk of dumping it, which is really my only fear...

There's a guy who scoots in from West St. Paul to Plymouth every day. He's occasionally interviewed on Garage Logic (3-6p weekdays on 1500AM), and he writes for Minnesota Motorcycle Monthly.

Is that the crazy bastard who's riding a Baron every day? That's asking a lot of a well-made scooter; it's crazy on a Baron. BTW, Baron is based in Plymouth - he doesn't work for them does he?

It's the same guy that writes the "Backroads Diary" for MMM. Here's his scoot in the winter blog.

On a related note, I recently found out that accidental death insurance is much cheaper than life insurance.

HA! If I bought $1.5M worth of ADD insurance, my wife would probably become much more supportive of my scooter rides...

Young singles don't have to think about such things, but life/death insurance to cover dependents is good. I know a few scooterists who pay much more for Life/Accidental Death coverage than scooter insurance or gas. It makes the family feel more secure.

There is a balance to be maintained though. It might be problem (for me) if I'm worth more dead than alive.
