Just to give you more hints:

examine the shadow, the curve of the back end, the horn area and the seat.
OK, everyone knows its a "handle bar" model from the fifties. Most likly not a fender light. (head light on the handle-bars) But it would be impossible to know the year based on that picture! We need to see the cowls, front fork, and possibly the ID badge. Of couse I saw all of those things but that would be cheating.

There is a good clue in the seat -- look very closely. It will get you in the ballpark (I think).

How many paypal donations did it take to purchase that over priced Allstate?

For the record: You are way off on your guess about the paypal part. It took exactly zero and it was a very excellent deal! You are accurate about the Allstate part, though. Any guess on the year? (psst - there is no such thing as an anonymous post on any website).

http:///vespa/55allstate.html has a good example of a 55 with those two fat springs on the rear of the seat.

Ok, before it falls off the Regulars front page, the scooter is a 1952 Vespa Allstate. The clues were (hopefully): the handlebar, the headlight, the slope of the back end, the open-front seat. John got the closest! Good guessing!
